Milford Schools’ “Meet Your Coach” series highlights the coaches who lead, mentor and support our student-athletes. Our next feature introduces Marie Hippe, head coach of the Milford High School Varsity Volleyball team.
Hippe is in her second season leading the Eagles after helping Milford capture a district championship last season. She began coaching at Milford one year after completing her collegiate playing career at Ball State University.
Before becoming a coach, Hippe played four years of volleyball at Loveland High School and five seasons at Ball State from 2019–2023. She used her additional year of eligibility following COVID to complete her master’s degree while continuing to compete.
At Ball State, Hippe played in 165 of 167 possible career matches and helped the Cardinals reach the NCAA Tournament three times. Those appearances included a victory over Michigan and a trip to the Round of 32 against Louisville. During her five seasons, Ball State earned two Mid-American Conference regular-season championships and two MAC Tournament titles.
Hippe earned three consecutive All-MAC First Team selections from 2021–2023 and AVCA All-Midwest Region honors in 2022 and 2023. She also left her mark on Ball State’s record book, setting the program’s career hitting percentage record at .362 and single-season record at .404 in 2022. Her 1,322 career kills rank sixth in program history.
Her accomplishments extended to the classroom, where she earned four Academic All-MAC selections and CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition in 2022.
At Milford, Hippe brings that experience to helping her players grow as athletes and leaders. Get to know Coach Hippe in her own words:
What do you enjoy most about coaching at Milford?
“I enjoy working with the girls. They make every day competitive, bring a smile to my face with their silly jokes, and continue working to become better players and people.
“I enjoy helping shape the girls into confident, vocal leaders in volleyball and in the world.”
What are your goals or hopes for the season?
“I hope our teams create a family culture that celebrates one another, builds each other up, and pushes everyone to become better players and people. Of course, I would also love to win an ECC championship and make a deep postseason run.”
What is one of your favorite memories from coaching at Milford?
“Winning the district championship last season!”
What is a fun fact about you?
“I got married this summer, and my last name is now Hippe!”
