SETTING THE SCENE: After splitting four games over Spring Break, the Milford High School softball team has a busy week ahead with five games, including three as part of special events. Following back-to-back Eastern Cincinnati Conference games against Anderson to start the week, Milford will take part in Friday Night Lights in Lebanon on Friday night (taking on Mason and Centerville) before making an appearance in the Cincinnati Reds Futures Showcase on Sunday against Harrison.

GAME REWIND
A talented Goodpasture Christian Academy team from Madison, Tenn. jumped to a 6-0 lead after four innings and never looked back, handing the visiting Eagles a 9-2 opening day defeat. Milford got one of the runs back in the fifth, but three more by GCA over the next two innings put the game out of reach for the Eagles.

Milford concluded its Spring Break trip to Tennessee with a wild, back and forth 10-8, extra inning win over Coffee County. Trailing 8-6 heading to the top of the seventh, Milford scored twice, the last coming on a Sydnee Harris RBI double to force extras. In the ninth, three errors by CCHS paved the way for the winning Eagles’ runs.

Greenville’s Baylee Patry limited Milford to just two runs and six hits as Milford dropped a 5-2 decision in game one of a doubleheader. The Eagles jumped out first with a first inning RBI single by Katelyn Reynolds, but the hosts ripped off five straight runs to take control. Reynolds drove in the other Eagles’ run in the seventh with an RBI double.

INSIDE THE ECC: Milford begins its quest to repeat its four consecutive ECC Championships with the start to league play this week. POLL WATCH: Milford is ranked eighth in the current Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Lakota East holds a slim lead over district rival Lakota West on the strength of a 3-1 edge in first place votes. Mason (two first place votes), Lebanon (one first place vote) and Ursuline round out the top-five. The ECC is represented in others receiving votes by West Clermont, Loveland, Kings and Anderson.
