Milford High School freshman Tyler Babinec capped a terrific first prep season by placing 13th in the 100 breaststroke at the OHSAA Division I Swimming Championships, which concluded on Saturday evening in Canton, Ohio. Babinec stopped the clock in 58.72 seconds to earn the fifth finishing position in the consolation final. He earned a finals berth with the 15th fastest time in Friday’s prelims (58.53).
Babinec’s trip to Canton also included participation in the prelims in the 50 freestyle where he finished 21st with a mark of 21.82 seconds, just two tenths of a second off qualifying for the finals.
Babinec made history this season, becoming the first-ever Milford swimmer to capture a district championship (50 freestyle), while winning both the 50 free and 100 breast at the 2016 Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships.
