The Milford High School girl’s basketball team wrapped up its 2015-16 season on Sunday night celebrating a to remember this year. The following is a look at some milestones and achievements enjoyed by this year’s Eagles.
- Enjoyed arguably the best season for Milford girls basketball in nearly 20 years as the Eagles finished with 18 wins, the most since 1996-97.
- One of only four teams in the city to improve its win total by at least 10 victories from last season.
- The team’s two OHSAA Tournament wins marks the first time since 2008-09 the Eagles have won multiple postseason contests.
- Of Milford’s 18 wins this season, all but three were by double digits.
- Enjoyed a seven-game winning streak in late December-early January.
- The following players earned All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference honors: Taylor Foster (1st team), Hannah Woody (1st team), Kelly Noll (2nd team), Tori Gilman (honorable mention).
- In addition, Taylor Foster and Hannah Woody were All-Southwest District honorable mention selections.
- Taylor Foster, Kelly Noll and Hannah Woody participated in the District 16 All-Star Game on March 16.
- Yielded single digit points in 48 of 100 quarters played over course of the season, including five points or less allowed 21 times.
- All 11 players who took the court for Milford scored at least two points in the team’s Dec. 21 win at Batavia.
- The Eagles’ Nov. 28 win over Turpin not only got them off to a 1-0 start in league play, it also snapped a seven-game regular season losing streak to the Spartans. Not counting an OHSAA Tournament win over Turpin during the 2013-14 season, Milford’s last win over the Spartans came early in the 2011-12 campaign (56-42 win).
- Won both games at the Hope Classic in head coach Kristi McKenney’s hometown of Youngstown, Ohio.
- Enjoyed a Senior Night to remember for seniors Taylor Foster, Morgan Laughlin, Kelly Noll, Hannah Waltz and Hannah Woody with a 57-38 win over Anderson.
- Participated in the Game of Hope against Turpin benefiting The Cure Starts Now for the second straight year.
- Led the ECC in steals for the second straight year (261).
- Junior Tori Gilman led the league lead in steals (62).
Team Goals
- Win ECC and Sectional Championship—finished fourth in the ECC and was runner-up in the Sectional Tournament
- Highest GPA as a program—among the highest at MHS this school year
- Shoot 70% free throws—finished season at 65.9%
- Limit opponent rebound less than 6—won the rebounding battle in 14 of 25 games
- Less than 10 points per quarter and min 4th quarter—allowed single digit points in 48 of 100 points, including five points or less 21 times. Allowed an average of 10.1 points per quarter.
- Limit 12 turnovers per game; force 20 turnovers per game—averaged 12.8 points per game and committed 12 turnovers or less in 14 of 25 games. Opponents averaged 18.5 turnovers per game and committed 20 turnovers or more in 11 of 25 games.
