Six members of the Milford wrestling team have been selected for All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference honors, the most since the inception of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference four years ago. Jimmy Murphy, a junior, was named first team all-conference, while freshman Kobey Bronaugh, seniors Shaun Burgdorf and Noah Dixie, and junior Daniel Wilson were named to the second team. Sophomore Tre Spillman received honorable mention.
Junior Jimmy Murphy (132) was named first team all-ECC, the first Milford wrestler to receive that honor since the inception of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference. Murphy recorded a 45-8 record this season, bringing his career total to 93-37. Murphy claimed championships at the Milford Invitational Tournament and the Eastern Cincinnati Conference meet. He also placed at 2nd the at James V. Horning Memorial Tournament in Mason, and 3rd at Edgewood Invitational as well as the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament held at Wright State University’s Nutter Center. Murphy secured a 4th place finish at OHSAA District championship in order to advance to the Sectional Tournament. Murphy dropped the Sectional Tournament ‘s opening round match, but came back with two wins in the consolation rounds. From there, he fell to Nino Salamone of Elder, who went on to finish in fifth. He ended the year ranked 1st in the ECC at 132.
Kobey Bronaugh (106) was named to the All-ECC second team, and ranked 1st in the ECC at 106. He finished his freshman year at 32-11, with championships at both the Edgewood Invitational and the Milford Invitational Tournament. He was a runner-up at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship meet and Mason’s James V. Horning Memorial Tournament. Bronaugh finished second in the 106 weight class at the OSHAA District Championship, falling 17-2 in the championship match by tech fall to advance to Sectionals. He secured a fifth place finish at the Sectional Tournament, and a spot as an alternate for the State Championship.
Second team selection and senior Shaun Burgdorf (126) ended the year ranked 2nd in the ECC standings. Burgdorf placed 2nd at the 2016 ECC Championship Tournament, third at the Milford Invite, and fourth at the James V. Horning Memorial Tourney. He won his fifth place match at the OSHAA Division I Sectional Tournament, and was designated as an alternate for the District Tournament. He received second team honors in 2015 as well.
Noah Dixie (145) was selected All-ECC second team for his senior season. He was the runner-up at the both the 2016 ECC Championship tournament and the Milford Invitational. Like Burgdorf, Dixie won his District fifth place match and was designated as an alternate for the District Tourney. He closes his Milford career ranked 2nd in the ECC standings for 2016.
Daniel Wilson was named to the All-ECC second team, and ends his junior year ranked 3rd at 220. Wilson was a runner-up in his weight class at the 2016 ECC Championship Tournament, helping the team to a fourth place finish.
Honorable mention was awarded to sophomore Tre Spillman. At 160, Tre Spillman finished in third place at the 2016 ECC Championships, and was a sixth place finisher at the Milford Invitational. The 2016 season ended with Spillman ranked 5thin the ECC standings at 160.
Season Highlights:
- The MHS wrestling team placed fourth, and six Eagles placed in the top three at Eastern Cincinnati Conference meet.
- Twenty regional high school wrestling teams traveled to Milford, as the Eagles hosted the annual Milford Invitational Tournament on Saturday, 1/30. Milford varsity wrestlers finished in third place at the MIT, just 7 points behind first place New Richmond, and 3 points behind Mason, who finished in second.
- Milford hosted Indian Hill and Amelia on senior night, when the team and fans celebrated senior wrestlers and pinnettes. The tri-match was a great send-off for the seniors, as Milford defeated both Indian Hill 58-6, and Amelia 51-18. The Eagles won 17 of 19 matches and all active seniors finished with double wins on the night. Senior wrestlers: Dylan Brothers, Shaun Burgdorf, Noah Dixie, Shayne McDonough, Jarod Roll, and Mark Wilfong. Senior pinnettes: Aubrie Keplinger, Rachel Brown, Hannah Gratsch, Julia Schultz, Kaitlyn Gregory, Kelsi Spillman, Kristen Schumacher, Madison McQuillin, and Molly Parks.
