With the 2015-16 school year coming to a close later this week, the Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to recognize seven of its outstanding student-athletes from the Class of 2016 with the announcement of several special awards. The following student-athletes exemplified excellence both in the classroom and in their respective sport(s) throughout their stay at Milford.

OHSAA Scholar Athlete Awards

One male and one female are chosen based on their academic and athletic achievements, with special emphasis on the grade point average of varsity athletes.

OHSAA Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Awards

One male and one female are chosen after earning a team Milford Sportsmanship Award for honor, integrity and showing concern for others. The Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award is sponsored by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to promote sportsmanship, ethics and integrity. Our two student-athlete winners this year have certainly displayed the characteristics for which this award was designed.

  • Alex Shiplett – earned five career sportsmanship awards and two varsity letters in football and two in basketball.
  • Piper Hilliard – earned four career sportsmanship awards and four varsity letters in cheerleading, one in cross country and one in track & field.

MHS Most Outstanding Senior Athletes

Every year, one boy and one girl are voted as “Most Outstanding Senior Athlete” by the head coaches of every sport. Number of varsity letters, number of different varsity sports played, accomplishments in their varsity sports and personal character are the focal points of the selection process.

  • Brad Hall – earned seven varsity letters (four for baseball and two for basketball). Brad has received eight individual All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference accolades, including two Player of the Year Awards and has been a part of five ECC Championship squads. He was a four-time champion in baseball and was part of the best boys basketball team in school history as a junior, winning the league title and advancing to the district championship game.
  • Kelly Noll – earned eight varsity letters (four each in basketball and softball). She has also earned five individual ECC All-Conference honors during her career and has been a part of three consecutive ECC Softball Championship teams.

OHSAA Courageous Student Award

One student-athlete is chosen based on selection guidelines provided by the OHSAA. In general, this award goes to a male or female who has overcome serious illness, injury or disability; overcome adversity in a positive way; has gone beyond the normal bounds in assisting a fellow student, family member or friend; or has displayed tremendous courage against overwhelming odds. This award is not given every year and is truly a special honor.

  • Keenan Farrell – earned four varsity letters (three for basketball and one for football). Keenan twice overcame serious illness that threatened to prematurely end his high school playing career. He returned to the basketball court as a senior, earning All-ECC honors and was a member of the squad that as a junior posted the best record in school history.

Congratulations to all of truly outstanding and deserving Milford High School senior student-athletes.
