The MHS boys and girls track and field teams will send five athletes to the OSHAA Division I Regionals following the Division I District Meet at Mason last week.
Senior Clare Cartheuser won the District title in discus for the second consecutive year, with a discus throw of 131-00.00.
Cartheuser’s teammate Andrea Armstrong finished the 100 meter dash in fifth place with a 13.24 following preliminaries. The freshman went on to finals, and took the podium in third with a time of 12.85.
Joining Armstrong to advance to the Regional Meet in the 4x100 meter relay are juniors Lauryn Knarr and Lindsey Lawson, and sophomore Emma Netzel. The 4x100 girls relay team set a new school record during the preliminaries held on May 18, 2016. Their qualifying time of 51.06 in the Friday’s finals earned them third place.
On the boys side, sophomore Manny Fernandez will head north to Regionals following a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. Fernandez posted a personal best in the District finals, 16.06.
In a meet where the top four of each event qualify for Regionals, Milford's boys 4x200 meter relay (Ben Greenwell, Dominic Dalessandro, Jordan Latham and Dustin Reynolds) just missed a trip to Dayton. The relay team placed 5th, just .08 behind the fourth place finishers.
Other athletes who placed in the top eight at the District Meet include the girls 4x800 meter relay¸7th place (Cymone Horton, Piper Hilliard, Ali Kirk and Marissa Detore), Haley Rodeffer, 7th in the 300 meter hurdles, and Madison Chittwood, tie for 8th place in the high jump.
The Milford girls ended the last team event with a 10th place finish of 15 teams; the boys team placed 14th of 16 overall.
All qualifiers will compete at the Regional Meet this week, held at Perc Welcome Stadium in Dayton. Preliminary events begin on Wednesday, May 25th at 5:00 pm for field events; track events begin at 6:30 pm. Finals are scheduled for Friday, May 29th.
