Juniors Katelyn Rheude and Kelsey Seitz each had monster days at the plate, backing a three-hit shutout by classmate Valerie Thompson as the Milford High School softball team defeated Colerain by a 9-0 score in the second round of the OHSAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon. Rheude and Seitz combined for seven runs, seven hits (six for extra bases) and four RBI in the victory. In the circle, Thompson fanned six in her 10th shutout and 18th win of the year.

Rheude finished the day with three doubles and scored three runs, while Seitz had a double and two triples among her four hits. She also scored four times and drove in three. Senior Hannah White went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Milford went right to work in the first, plating two on a Seitz RBI triple and a run-scoring double by White. Rheude put the Eagles up 3-0 with a second inning sacrifice fly, while three Colerain errors led to Milford’s fourth run in the third inning. Seitz drove in a run and scored another among Milford’s three fourth inning runs, then doubled and scored in the sixth to complete the day’s scoring.

The second-seeded Eagles (20-3) will now advance to Monday’s sectional final where it will battle No. 3 seed Oak Hills. The game will take place at Sycamore High School and get underway at 5 p.m.
