All-Conference ECC: Two individuals highlight the Milford athletes who were selected to the Eastern Cincinnati Conference’s all-conference roster.
Milford’s Clare Cartheuser was selected first team all-conference for the second consecutive year, along with a second team award in 2013.
Cartheuser ends an exceptional MHS career holding the school record throw of 133-06.00, which not only earned her the 2016 Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship in discus, but broke her own record for the fifth time in two years. In 2016 she set surpassed her own initial record three times, and did so twice in 2015. She initial set a new school record in the discus at Milford’s Bill Marran Track in 2015, when as a junior she toppled the previous record of 121’ 3”, set over 24 years ago by Tammy McCallum, a member of the Milford Athletic Hall of Fame.
Cartheuser concluded her senior year with an eighth place finish at the 2016 OHSAA Division I State Track and Field Meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at the Ohio State University. Her throw of 130-06.00 in her third attempt led her to an eighth place finish among sixteen of the best female throwers in Ohio.
She claimed the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship in the discus at the ECC Meet in 2015 and 2016; won the OHSAA Division I District Meet title in both 2015 and 2016; and took second and fourth place respectively at the 2016 and 2015 OHSAA Division I Regional Meets to qualify for the State Meets in consecutive years. In 2015, she not only placed tenth but set another new school record, besting her own record-setting 122’ 4.5”.
Andrea Armstrong received all-conference honorable mention for a terrific freshman season. At the 2016 ECC Championship Meet, Armstrong placed third in the 100 meter dash and sixth in the 200 meter dash. She finished the 100 meter dash in third with a time of 12.85 at the OHSAA Division I District Meet to qualify for regionals, where at the OHSAA Division I Regional Meet she finished the 100 meter dash preliminary in eleventh place with a 13.04, capping an outstanding freshman year.
Armstrong was also a member of Milford’s record-setting 4x100 girls relay team, who ended the year by once again besting their own record for the fourth time this season and breaking 50 seconds. Joined by juniors Lauryn Knarr and Lindsey Lawson, sophomore Emma Netzel, the team set the latest new school record of 49.99 at the OSHAA Division I Regional Track Meet finals. Before the record-setting 2016 season, the previous record of 51.20 had held over 27 years, set in 1989 by Bridgette Gordon, Laurie Dever, Melissa Grandstaff, and Jane Pfeiffer.
