SETTING THE SCENE:   The season opened for the MHS girls cross country squad at the Lakota East Fall Classic Invitational Saturday morning.  Looking ahead, week two finds the team headed to Mason for the Xavier University Invitation at Kingswood Park

 

A LOOK BACK:  The Lady Eagles opened the season on a high note with some of their best times in the past several years, following a hot and humid race at the Lakota East Fall Classic.    Freshman Emma Beck made an impression in her first varsity race, leading the ladies of Milford at 28th with a time of 21:49.   Classmate Olivia Loeffler wasn’t far behind, and finished in 22.18, good for 32nd place among a very crowded field.  Veteran Cymone Horton (38th) followed in 22.28, while Marisa Detore crossed the finish in 23.17.  Detore was followed by trio of Milford runners who finished together; Andrea Armstrong (24.05), Audrey Moore (24.08.2) and Trista Whitt (24.08.3). 

The Eastern Cincinnati Conference dominated the Invite, as the race was won by Hannah Rasmussen of Kings, finishing in 19:36.  The team from Kings won the title, followed by fellow ECC school Turpin in second, and Loveland in eighth.   Milford finished 10th of 16 teams.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford will next hit the trails at the Xavier University Invitational, to be held at Kingswood Park in Mason.   The race, scheduled for Sat., 9/3, is set for a 10:45 am start time for the varsity girls race.

INSIDE THE ECC:  Eight Lady Eagles open the season ranked in the top half of the girl’s ECC standings, led by Emma Beck (12th) and Olivia Loeffler (13th).   Cymone Horton is just behind in 16th, followed by Marisa Detore in 30th.  Joining the top four include Andrea Armstrong (43rd), Trista Whitt and Audrey Moore tied for 44th, and Katherine Perez at 48th.

 

POLL WATCH:  Mason maintained the lead in week one of the area coaches’ poll, while Kings jumped to second and Turpin fell to third.  St. Ursula and McCauley moved into the top five at fourth and fifth, as Lakota West and Ursuline Academy fell to sixth and seventh. Anderson (17), Loveland (2) and Walnut Hills (2) were the only other ECC schools to receive votes in the poll this week.
