SETTING THE SCENE: With a roster featuring five all-conference performers from one year ago among its six players, the Milford High School boys golf team will open the 2016 campaign this week with a trio of tournaments prior to the start of school later this month. Under the tutelage of two-time reigning Eastern Cincinnati Conference Coach of the Year Phil Sheldon, the Eagles advanced to the Southwest District Championship Tournament as a team last fall and will try to go one step further, making it to the state for the first time in over two decades with an experienced squad in 2016.

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 9 at Anderson Invitational, Legendary Run Golf Course, 7:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 10 at ECC Preseason Tournament, Glenview Golf Course, 7:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 13 at Sycamore Invitational, Blue Ash Golf Course, 7:30 a.m.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: After pulling off a second straight conference crown in 2015, the Eagles lost just one senior from that squad and will welcome back a trio of first team All-ECC performers headlined by reigning ECC Player of the Year Nathan Arnold. Last season, Arnold led the ECC in scoring during the regular season with a 38.1 average, before placing second at the ECC and Sectional Championship events. At the ECC event, Arnold missed out on medalist honors as then-freshman Justin Horn stunned the field with a score of 75. Horn placed fifth in the league rundown with a 39.6 nine-hole average and showed the ECC win was no fluke with a strong eighth place tally at sectionals. Senior Aaron Wade is the third of the big three for the Eagles after he finished just behind Arnold in the regular season rankings in the ECC at 39.2 and earned 11th and third place finishes, respectively at ECC’s and sectionals.

This year’s stout roster also features returning All-ECC second team choice Tristin Woster and honorable mention selection Cameron Loux, along with varsity newcomer Trey Robinson. Woster earned a top-10 ECC finish, while he and Loux ranked 13th and 29th, respectively in last year’s final ECC rankings.
