SETTING THE SCENE: A full, four-match week that should help prepare the team for next week’s Eastern Cincinnati Conference Tournament awaits the Milford High School boys golf team as the regular season reaches its latter stages. The Eagles have been near the top of the league standings all year long as well as enjoying success in non-conference duals and tournaments and have hopes for making an impact on upcoming postseason competition.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 14 vs. Mason/Oak Hills: The Eagles took to the Shaker Run Golf Course for a tri-meet with local powers Mason and Oak Hills and finished with the day’s second-lowest score. Mason came out on top by four shots over the Eagles (151-155), with Oak Hills finishing the afternoon at 167.

 

Sept. 15 vs. Kings: The Eagles stayed perfect in Eastern Cincinnati Conference play with a 151-167 victory over Kings at the Deer Track Golf Course.

 

Sept. 17 at Springboro Invitational: Senior Nathan Arnold topped a fine field of 60 golfers to take medalist honors at the Springboro Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club. As a team, Milford placed fourth in the tournament field.

 

INSIDE THE ECC: As the regular season is winding down, the ECC standings show both Loveland and Milford with identical 5-2 overall marks and 3-0 records against conference foes. The ECC Championship is determined by a combination of team’s finish in the ECC Preseason and Postseason Tournaments as well as victories in head-to-head dual meets against conference opponents. The 2016 ECC Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 29 at Glenview Golf Course.

 

Individually, the Eagles feature two of the league’s top- ranked golfers in seniors Nathan Arnold (1st-37.5 average) and Aaron Wade (4th-38.5).

 

POLL WATCH: A continued strong season has pushed the Eagles up one slot to fifth in the weekly Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll released on Sept. 19. The 10 voting coaches are split on the No. 1 team with both Lakota East and St. Xavier each earning five votes, both the former taking the overall top spot. Mason and Elder complete the top-five ahead of the Eagles. The ECC is also represented by Loveland in sixth, Turpin tied for 10th and Kings, Anderson and Walnut Hills all receiving votes.
