Effective immediately, Milford High School (MHS) will not offer the competitive sport of water polo (boys & girls) for 2025-2026 and possibly beyond.
This decision comes as Milford Schools faces significant financial challenges following the recent earned income tax levy failure in addition to lack of current student interest. To address these challenges responsibly, the Milford Athletic Department conducted a comprehensive evaluation of all 30+ sports offered at MHS.
While water polo has been an exciting and unique part of Milford's athletic program since its inception in 1990, declining participation has made it increasingly difficult to field full and competitive teams. After much consideration, the District believes discontinuing the program is the best decision to ensure sustainable opportunities for our student-athletes.
Since its conception, Milford has had a rich history and tradition of success. Some of the awards and accolades include:
● Boys State Championships in 2006 & 2008
● Boys State Final Four Appearances in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011
● Boys Regional Championships in 2006, 2008, 2011
● Girls State Final Four Appearances in 2000, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014
● Girls Regional Championships in 2000, 2006, 2010
● Over 100 All-Ohio Award Recipients
● 11 All-American Nominations
● Many student-athletes who have gone on to play Polo at the collegiate level

We are incredibly proud of these accomplishments and the student-athletes, coaches, and supporters who have contributed to this program over the years. Their names and achievements will continue to be honored in our pool and Fley Center trophy cases.
